Tension inside a thriller

Tension insider thriller



We are introduced to the picture of  a blurred light. There is an eery atmosphere created for the audience as we begin to recognize that it is something underwater. The blurred light is slowly revealed and this creates suspense for the audience as we are gripped to see what it is and what will happen.


We can now clearly see that this is a submarine, again the audience feels more suspense as to what is inside now that the eery blue and slightly creepy atmosphere has been revealed.


The audience can see that inside the  submarine is claustrophobic and this lets the audience feel like the walls are almost closing in and this is a sense of entrapment and the panic begins to seep in.The two men are middle aged and they look similar.This set is very realistic.The sounds are also very realistic as they are subtle but they seem to build up as the scene unfolds.

This causes suspense for the audience because we want to try and work out what it is and our focus immediately concentrating on this which is unnerving and tension is created.The fact that it is dark in the screen as well causes the submarine workers to change there body language to seek out what it is and this also creates tension.

This creates the most tension for me because you are immediately gripped as to what is going to happen and the fact that it could be in the darkness where we are directly staring at and the suspense of what it is revealed very slowly.

As the submarine controllers realise that they have been hit by something and there is no connection to the world above the panic slowly rises and almost encloses in the claustrophobic space.

As we hear a creaking noise and the sound of water the eery atmosphere is the most powerful image for me because there is a feeling of anything could happen and that makes the audience immediately want to watch the entire film to see the end result as it could be anything. It is not just creepy but filled with surprising elements. i also feel like the cut off from the world above relates to the title because it is like the separation of two worlds.
